Donating to BFIS
BFIS was established in 1996 by leading insurance company executives who realised that as the insurance industry in Bermuda grew, there was a need to ensure that young Bermudians had the education and training necessary to enter the industry. They agreed that this could be achieved through financial support for education, mentoring, and meaningful vacation jobs in insurance.
BFIS has now awarded over $7 million in scholarships; we have an ever-expanding mentor network; our summer 'Intro-to-Iinsurance' programmes are now held in four locations; and our career information and employment guidance programmes have benefited thousands of students, graduates and career-changers.
These programmes continue to be supported through annual pledges and donations from the insurance sector as well as those companies that benefit from doing business for the insurance sector.
Every donor receives not only our thanks, but publicity in the local media and their names are added to our list of current donors in our marketing materials and on this website, as well as having their company logo on a rotating banner.
BFIS Members are those who pledge or donate over $10,000 per year. This entitles them to name a representative to vote on their behalf at the Annual General Meeting to elect the Board of Trustees, the majority of who are drawn from our donor base.
If you are a U.S. Taxpayer and would like to find out more about making a U.S. tax-deductible donation please click here. BFIS can receive U.S. tax-deductible donations if they are first sent to the International Charitable Fund of Bermuda, Inc., which has 501(c)(3) status.
