Meeting a Need

Established by leaders of Bermuda's insurance industry in 1996, BFIS is tasked with ensuring that Bermudian students are provided with opportunities to attain the education and training necessary for careers in Bermuda's insurance industry.

This is being achieved through scholarships, mentoring, internships and career guidance.

Rhodes Scholarship application deadline – Oct 21

Each year, there is one Scholarship available in Bermuda to enable an outstanding student – chosen on the basis of exceptional intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service – to study at the University of Oxford. The first Rhodes Scholar from Bermuda was selected to come to Oxford in 1904, and since that time nearly 100 students from Bermuda have been awarded this prestigious scholarship.
Applications (for undergraduate students aged between 19 and 25 who have completed at least 3 years of their degree studies) for the 2012 Scholarship have now opened and will close on 21 October 2011. The online application form is available here. The selection committee meets in Bermuda towards the end of November. This year, the tentative interview date is Friday, 25 November 2011. The Rhodes Trust will reimburse the cost of the airfare for travel to Bermuda for shortlisted candidates, up to BD$700.

2. the selection criteria that apply in all Rhodes constituencies, and then

3. the application criteria specific to Bermuda.
