Meeting a Need
Established by leaders of Bermuda's insurance industry in 1996, BFIS is tasked with ensuring that Bermudian students are provided with opportunities to attain the education and training necessary for careers in Bermuda's insurance industry.
This is being achieved through scholarships, mentoring, internships and career guidance.

RAA Scholarship Winner
We are pleased to announce that Sofia Lama will be attending the ReClaims two-day course in New York this week. New this year, the Reinsurance Association of America’s Patrick A. Thiele Scholarship, administered through BFIS, was offered to insurance-focused students to attend one of the RAA courses being held in the US or Bermuda. Sofia jumped at the chance to increase her knowledge and understanding of insurance, especially as these courses can also count towards CPCU certification.
Sofia is a Bermudian who graduated this year with a degree in Economics from Puget Sound University in Washington State and BFIS has been helping her look for an entry-level position in Bermuda’s insurance sector (now found!). Sofia has also joined the BFIS Mentor Network.
