Meeting a Need

Established by leaders of Bermuda's insurance industry in 1996, BFIS is tasked with ensuring that Bermudian students are provided with opportunities to attain the education and training necessary for careers in Bermuda's insurance industry.

This is being achieved through scholarships, mentoring, internships and career guidance.

Bermuda Intro-to-Insurance starts

Four Bermudians and two American students from the Katie School at Illinois State University will be visiting 31 different insurance and reinsurance companies and related organizations over the course of the internship.

To start off this year’s programme the students met with BFIS President and Chairman of the Board, Michael Fisher, and one of the 2007 Bermuda interns, Brian Steinhoff, to talk about how to get the most out of the programme. Mike Fisher noted that none of this would be possible without the tremendous support of the industry whose members will be generously donating time to share their knowledge, insights and experience with the students.

Allied World Assurance Company, a long-time BFIS Donor and supporter, has for the second year agreed to underwrite the costs of the 2011 programmes which take place not only in Bermuda but also in London (May 30 – June 10) and Chicago (July 10 – 23).
