Established by leaders of Bermuda's insurance industry in 1996, BFIS is tasked with ensuring that Bermudian students are provided with opportunities to attain the education and training necessary for careers in Bermuda's insurance industry.
This is being achieved through scholarships, mentoring, internships and career guidance.

BFIS Scholarships 2011
The BFIS Scholarships are offered to students planning to pursue careers in the insurance industry who are studying for their undergraduate degree at an accredited overseas university. Students studying for their degree through the Mount Saint Vincent programme at Bermuda College may also apply.
In 2010 BFIS awarded over half a million in scholarships to 13 of Bermuda’s brightest students who plan to pursue career in the insurance industry. The scholarships ranged from $30,000 a year for 4 years to $10,000 a year for 2 years and were open to postgraduate students in addition to all undergraduate academic years.
The process for choosing who to award scholarships to is never easy, but in the end it comes down to academic ability, extra curricular activities, community involvement and enthusiasm to succeed.
Since 1996, when insurance industry leaders started BFIS in order to ensure that Bermudian students were able to attain the relevant education and training to start insurance careers, BFIS has awarded $3.65 million to over one hundred students.
